The STEM School will follow the Lincoln Unified school calendar.

    Will teachers be credentialed?
All teachers are credentialed and certificated to teach students who have English as their second language.

How do I enroll my student?
Registration packets are available from the Lincoln Unified District Office at 2010 West Swain Road. Kindergarten registration packets are also available at the front office of either John McCandless campus or any Lincoln Unified Elementary school beginning in March.

For current Lincoln students, registration can be requested on the Intent to Return form that will be sent home with all students mid-April. For students not currently attending a Lincoln Unified School, registration forms are available at the Lincoln Unified District Office at 2010 West Swain Road.

    Who was John McCandless?

John McCandless served the Lincoln Unified School District with distinction for 33 years as principal of several schools including Lincoln Elementary, Colonial Heights, and Lincoln High School. He also served as District Director of Curriculum and Certificated Personnel, and Associate Superintendent of Personnel Services. John McCandless High School was dedicated on February 25, 1987. In the fall of 1992, the building was closed due to budget cuts. It was reopened two years later to house several programs for students K-12. As the District grew, the John McCandless Center housed the Districts Child Welfare and Attendance Offices as well as four alternative education classrooms serving students in grades 9-12. The McCandless Center most recently housed four classrooms for students in grades 10-12, and two classrooms for 9th grade students. As Lincoln’s alternative high school programs merge to become Village Oaks High School, we will take the name John McCandless STEM Charter School.
